Rhode Island's Best Rx is a prescription drug discount card program designed to lower the cost of prescriptions for Rhode Island residents who are either age 60 and over or any age with incomes less than 300% of the federal poverty level are eligible. No, there is no enrollment or application fee to join Rhode Island's Best Rx. All a Rhode Island resident has to do is visit the web site or call the Discount Drug Card help desk to sign up. A one-time $2.50 activation fee per card will be added onto the cost of the first prescription.

There is also a mail order option available through www.OrchardRx.com. The Rhode Island Best Rx Discount Drug Card Web site provides a Find a Pharmacy tool that makes it easy to locate a participating pharmacy in your city or zip code area. Can individuals on Medicaid use the Rhode Island's Best Rx card?

Rhode Island's Medicaid program provides comprehensive coverage of prescription and some over-the-counter medications. While certain Medicaid consumers may be subject to a small co-pay for specified drugs, in most cases the total cost of the prescription is covered by Medicaid and at no cost to the consumer.

If an individual is on Medicaid spend down (under which the individual is required to spend his/her own money for medical costs each month before Medicaid coverage begins), the Rhode Island's Best Rx card can be used for the time period when an individual is not eligible for the Medicaid benefit; however, only the discounted price will contribute to your spend down.

What if I want to fill my prescription(s) through mail order?

The mail order facility for Rhode Island's Best Rx is Orchard Pharmaceutical Services. You have several options to set a profile up with Orchard: log-on to their website at www.orchardrx.com or call 1-866-909-5170 (TTY Users dial 711 for Relay Service). Once you have set up an Orchard profile, you will need to send in your doctor's prescription(s) filled out for a 90- day supply.
